Setting Up Your Email Account with Outlook 2000

1) Start Outlook.

2) Select "Tools", then "Accounts..." from the menu.
These menu items are found in the menu at the top of the Outlook window. Once selected, you will see the "Internet Accounts" window.

3) Select "Add", then "Mail..."
This will launch the "Internet Connection Wizard"

4) Enter your name and click "Next"
This is the name you wish other users to see when you send them an email.

5) Enter you email address, click "Next"

6) Set the "E-mail Server Names" settings as follows and then click "Next":

  • Set "My incoming mail server" to "POP3" if unsure. Otherwise, set to "IMAP".
  • Incoming mail server: mail.YOURDOMAIN.org
  • Refer to the e-mail provided to you by Prometheus.

  • Outgoing mail server: mail.YOURDOMAIN.org
  • This is the same as the incoming mail server.

7) Enter your account name and password. Leave the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" unchecked. Once done, click "Next".
Refer to the e-mail provided to you by Prometheus for your username and password.

8) On the next screen, click "Next", then click "Finish"
Not quite finished, but almost.

9) Highlight the new account you just created, then click "Properties"

10) Click the "Servers" tab

11) Near the bottom, look for the "My server requires authentication" checkbox. Place a check mark there.

12) Click the "Advanced" tab

13) Set the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port as follows:

  • If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) blocks mail on Port 25, set the SMTP port to "587," then click OK. Leave the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" unchecked.
  • If you can send out mail through Port 25, leave this set to "25" and it's recommended that you also place a check mark in the "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" setting. This will make you email more secure.

If you are unsure whether or not your ISP blocks Port 25, you can call them, but often it is easier to try sending mail out. If it fails, come back and change this setting to "587".

14) Click "OK" and then the "Close" button.
You should now be able to send and receive email through Prometheus' servers.
